Chosen as one of America’s 20 superheroes of health, Hans Diehl is a best-selling author, researcher, speaker and clinical professor of preventive medicine at Loma Linda University. He is in the forefront of the emerging field of lifestyle medicine. Through his world-class CHIP program, he advocates a simpler, saner diet that prevents, arrests, and reverses many common diseases. The CHIP program is now called Pivio. Watch as many of the 18 short videos as you would like.

Discussion Questions:

  1. What is heart disease? The hardening of the arteries, called atherosclerosis. Heart disease is largely self-made, and largely preventable. “You are only as young as your arteries.”

  2. Is heart disease more of a genetic problem or a lifestyle problem?  It is mainly a lifestyle problem with eight risk factors–Cholesterol, smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes, overweight, triglycerides, stress, and an inactive lifestyle.

  3. What is the first sign of heart disease for many people? Sudden death.

  4. What are positive lifestyle choices you can make to improve your health? Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grain products, lentils, beans, and nuts; get your exercise, think pleasant thoughts, and make positive contributions to the people around you.

  5. What is the difference between living a good life and the best life? A good life might be killing you. The best life includes healthier living, longer living, and enjoying your family more. “Healthy by choice, not by chance.”

  6. Why is being healthy important for you and your family?

  7. What foods are important to cut back on to have a healthier life?

  8. What foods can you add more of to improve your health?
