Skiing at Summit on Mount Hood!

Snow Days at Summit Ski Hill!

We had a near perfect day on the Summit ski hill on Mount Hood! Parents and children joined together for a day of fresh powder and kid fun.

During Adventure Days, we usually gather for a few minutes to consider a spiritual lesson. Since it was not possible for the whole group to gather at once (we were spread all over the mountain) what is the lesson for this last snow day?

Paul, in his letter to the Philippians, said he was joyful to “pour out his life like an offering.” How could he be so willing to suffer for Christ?

If skiing in the elements was a hardship (I know, this is not a true comparison), the cold wind, foggy goggles, the falls and snow down your jacket, could be considered hardships. Why would anyone in their right mind leave their comfortable house to go to a scary mountain and strap on dangerous skis to spend the day out in the cold? Ah, but when you get outside, you experience the joy of the great outdoors. Like REI says, “Ready to #optoutside? Yep.” Anyday, everyday!

Paul discovered something even better than the great outdoors. He discovered Christ. He discovered Christ’s power in his life that freed him from all worries and cares. Hardships (wind, snow, cold, danger, imprisonment) did not matter to him because he experienced something so much better through them–he experienced companionship with Christ.

As we get outside and connect with nature, may we also connect to the Creator of nature. May we #optforChrist, anyday, everyday!
