Mission Trip Takes Youth and Families to Managua, Nicaragua – Click here to watch the video.
Through God’s grace, the Nicaragua mission trip has become a classic for Adventist youth and families in the Georgia-Cumberland Conference. During spring break in 2018, participants once again experienced a rich dose of mission, relationship-building, adventure, and spiritual growth.
Although Nicaragua is the second-poorest country in the West, it is the safest in Central America, and its people are the kindest. The Adventist school we help is always so thankful, and the country itself is full of natural wonders.
Thirty Collegedale Adventist Youth in Action (CAYA) missionaries traveled to Managua, Nicaragua, from February 28 to March 11. During that time they ministered to more than 200 children and teens during two separate Week of Prayer events at the school, COVANIC. We also reached out to domestically abused girls, conducted street outreach, spent time with the mentally and physically disabled, and donated over $15,000 for essential projects at the Adventist school. We planted an orchard of over 100 trees, painted two separate buildings, updated their sports facilities, purchased windows for the elementary school, replaced light fixtures and ceiling tiles, and blessed the students with much-needed clothing and suitcases.
In addition, our mission team delivered CAYA athletic uniforms and water bottles, feminine hygiene kits donated by Sue Bruce through the Apison Church in Tennessee, bottles of vitamins from family practice physician Gordon Guild of Ooltewah, Tenn., clothes donated by Collegedale Academy students, and craft materials donated by many Adventists within the Georgia-Cumberland Conference. We are thankful for church members’ generosity, which helped fund our students’ travel costs and the projects at COVANIC.
If you are interested in going to Nicaragua on a future mission trip, then start planning on it! It is open to youth, adults, families, and retirees. The 2019 dates will likely be during spring break. Stay tuned for updated info. Thank you again for your prayers and support as we reach out to “the least of these.”
