Dallas Jenkins is an American film and television director, writer and film producer. Play episode 5 of season 1, beginning at 19:50.

Discussion Questions:

If possible, it is best to watch the previous episodes to understand the full narrative. Also, remember to not evaluate each other’s responses. Just listen and affirm their thoughts, even if you differ in opinion.

  1. Jesus was only 12 when he was at the temple “with his Father.” Mary was confused as to who his father was.  God was Jesus’ Father. Who is your earthly father? Who is your Heavenly Father? In what ways are you discovering God’s love and care for you? In what ways are you finding time to spend with your Heavenly Father?

  2. How does this episode show that Jesus celebrates marriage? How does his attendance at the wedding feast show His desire to be a part of your marriage?

  3. Why is Simon and his wife’s relationship stressed? What stresses couples today?

  4. Like Simon and Andrew were called to follow Jesus, have you become aware of your calling? What is Jesus calling you to?

  5. After Simon showed excitement when telling his wife Eden that Jesus called him, Eden said, “this is the man that I married!” What spiritual gift did you see in your spouse that drew you to him or her?

  6. Eden told Simon “you are more than a fisherman.” What is your spouse’s daily job? How can you help your spouse see himself or herself more than just a daily wage-earner?

  7. Eden told Simon, “when have we had anything easy?” Has life been relatively easy or hard for you? What ongoing challenges seem normal to you?

  8. Thomas has an exacting personality, worried about the details. What personality do you have? What are the strengths and weaknesses of your personality?

  9. Thomas and Ramah were a team. When have you seen a spirit of team within each other?

  10. Rafi and Dina, through the marriage of their son, were getting Abner and Hila–peculiar personalities–as their new in-laws. Has your experience been positive or negative with your significant other’s parents?

  11. Jesus said about his mother, “the most important and powerful person I know will be there, my mother.” How has your mother or father been powerful in a positive way in your life? How have they been powerful in a negative way?

  12. Jesus while traveling to the wedding, “Mary, do you think having brothers would be like this?” If you have children, has it been easy or hard to raise them? In what ways?

  13. Mary said while dining at the wedding and wondering where her and the disciples would stay for the night, “I have stopped worrying about these things.” Andrew, on the other hand, was worried about where they were going to stay. What things worry you? Is it easy or hard to release these worries to Jesus?

  14. Both Jesus and Mary said, “If not now, when?” What is God calling you to do now?

  15. In the end of the series Ramah said to Thomas, “He gave us even more than we need.” What blessings does Jesus give you daily, more than you even need?
