Simple Bliss
Photos display only two dimensions of what was a five-dimensional experience. You have to immerse in it to fully enjoy it. The fifth dimension was the Spirit of God with us!
What We Do
In the mornings, some participants wake up from camping on-site, and others drive in from their homes. We free-play in nature, then gather to sing, listen to inspirational stories, receive important life instruction, memorize scripture, and build courage and leadership skills through group games and crafts. In the afternoons, we step into the water, swim, play, skip stones, float down the river, or just sit by the shore and enjoy the trees, sunlight, and breeze. We connect with nature, with each other, and with God.
Upstream Camp is an organic, grass-roots experience. It shows that people can safely gather without the demands of institutions for highly regulated camps. Upstream Camp is regulated in a common sense way and in a way Jesus would approve. It is good practice for the “last days”–and for the present. Do you put too much trust in government-directed institutions? It may be time for a more simple faith. Go upstream!
Why We Do It
In the Pacific Northwest, especially in the summer, there are extraordinary opportunities for families to engage in nature. But as it is, many spend most of their time indoors. Air-conditioned houses, comfortable gyms, and warm swimming pools are great, but why not experience the real thing–the refreshing waters of a gently flowing river, the hot rocks of a partially dry river bed, the cool tree shade, and the crackling of a morning fire?
Upstream Camp is a nature camp experience where it is okay to walk barefoot to ground with the earth and with God. It’s okay to step outside of your comfort zone, because many times that is where the magic begins. God really enjoys meeting people in His creation–and that’s why we do it; that’s why we go to the river and stay there for a while; and that’s why we invite you next year to experience Upstream Camp.
A week at nature camp with games, songs, and prayers. Hot days end in the cool river with old friends and new, and my very best friend Jesus!
When I came to Upstream I felt like an adventurer!
I liked taking time out of my busy schedule to relax, enjoy nature, meet new people, watch the older teens lead, listen to stories, see the kids laugh and enjoy all the activities, and learn more about God’s love for us!
I love Upstream Camp, each year is different in a good way. It’s fun to see the kids getting older and still involved.
