Beacon Rock State Park–Heavenly!

Beacon Rock State Park was Sublime!

Less than an hour away from Vancouver, WA, is a unique landmark –an eroded lava plug –called Beacon Rock. Adventure Days families climbed the rock, hiked the forest trails, and spent time enjoying the Columbia River below.

This Adventure day was different from others, as we had a morning group and an afternoon group. Several families went up the rock in the morning, and other families came for lunch and the afternoon hike. Also, we had our friend Jeff Sohi with us. He is a search and rescue specialist, and we enjoyed his instruction.

It always takes extra energy to get past the inertia of not spending time outside. But once on the road and outside, the extra effort is worth it. This time, the sun rays, the laughter of the kids, the adult conversations, and the beautiful views made the trip memorable. My prayer is for all of our Adventure Days families–those who can make it and those who can’t–that God will give us all the strength we need to do our best for another day.

One spiritual object-lesson the group discovered had to do with Beacon Rock itself. Once a volcano, the Missoula Floods washed away the exterior of Beacon Rock, leaving only an eroded lava plug. Just like Beacon Rock, may we allow God to wash away our unstable, sinful exteriors; and may God’s rock-solid character remain strong, so that many people can see and enjoy what God has done!
